Hands-On Pharmacy Technician Training Experience
FVI’s Pharmacy Technician program combines online learning with extensive in-person training. In our Miami campus labs, you’ll practice the essential skills pharmacy technicians use every day, such as measuring medications, preparing sterile and non-sterile compounds, managing inventory, and working with pharmacy technology.
Your classroom and lab experience is reinforced with a 180-hour supervised externship in a hospital or retail pharmacy. This real-world training lets you work side by side with licensed professionals, support patients directly, and apply your skills in the same settings where you may be employed after graduation.

The program can be completed in 36 instructional weeks ( plus a 180-hour externship, and it prepares graduates to sit for two nationally recognized certification exams: the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) exam and the ExCPT (Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians) offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
In Florida, earning one of these certifications is a required step for state registration, which allows you to work legally as a pharmacy technician.
The curriculum is structured to build your knowledge step by step, beginning with healthcare fundamentals and pharmacy law and progressing through advanced pharmacology, compounding, and exam preparation. It combines online instruction, campus labs, and an externship for real-world experience.
Graduation does not guarantee employment or certification. You must pass the PTCB or ExCPT certification exams and meet Florida Board of Pharmacy registration requirements to become a Pharmacy Technician.

Do I need to Register with the Florida Board of Pharmacy?
Does FVI offer Pharmacy Technician Certifications?
Once you have completed our approved accredited training program at FVI, you can become certified by taking a certification exam that is approved by the State Board of Pharmacy in Florida. You can only take this exam once you have completed your training courses at FVI. In order to prepare for the certification, FVI offers 40 hours of preparation to ensure you pass on the first attempt!
There are two different certificating bodies for pharmacy technicians in the US: The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, which offers the PTCB CPhT exam, and the National Healthcare Association, which offers the ExCPT exam. Passing one of these exams allows the pharmacy technician to carry the status of Certified Pharmacy Technician (CphT)
