Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are often the first healthcare professionals to arrive on the scene, providing critical support, stabilizing patients, and ensuring safe transport to medical facilities. This 16-week program helps students build confidence and competence in delivering basic life support care while developing the communication and teamwork skills essential in high-pressure medical environments.
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program consists of three core components:
- Lecture – 118 Hours
- Lab – 100 Hours
- Clinical/Externship – 96 Hours
- Total Duration – 16 weeks
Classes are held two days per week, with additional hours for clinical rotations at approved medical facilities and EMS providers. The program is structured to support student learning through both theory and skill application.
Weekly Schedule
- Day 1: Lecture-Based Instruction (9:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
- Day 2: Lab Practice (9:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
- Externships: Scheduled based on student availability, often including ride-alongs and emergency room rotations.

EMT Classes and Course Breakdown
FVI’s EMT program is a 16-week blended learning experience that combines live online classes with in-person labs and clinicals. No prior healthcare experience is required. The program prepares students for entry-level roles in emergency medical services and for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) EMT-Basic certification exam.
You’ll gain foundational skills in trauma care, medical emergency management, patient assessment, airway support, and safe transport — all aligned with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National EMS Education Standards (NEMSES).
Graduates are prepared to work in ambulance services, hospitals, fire departments, and event safety teams. This EMT program is offered at both of our campuses.

Each week, students attend in-person lab sessions to practice lifesaving techniques like airway management, CPR, trauma stabilization, and patient transport. Clinicals are held at approved medical facilities and EMS providers, allowing students to participate in real-world emergency response scenarios. What Will I Learn In The EMT Program?
The EMT curriculum is designed to teach students how to respond to a wide range of emergency situations and to serve as vital links in the chain of healthcare delivery. Skills and knowledge areas include:
Patient assessment and triage
Basic airway and respiratory management
CPR and basic life support (BLS) techniques
Trauma care: bleeding control, bandaging, splinting, and spinal immobilization
Medical emergency response: diabetic emergencies, seizures, strokes, cardiac arrest, and more

Do you offer EMT classes for beginners?
Yes. FVI’s EMT program is designed for beginners and requires no prior healthcare experience. You’ll start with foundational training in emergency care and build skills step by step through online instruction, in-person labs, and clinical rotations.
Is the EMT course taught in Spanish?
Yes. The EMT program is available in a bilingual format (English and Spanish) at our Miami EMT school campus to support a diverse community of learners. It is also available in English only at our Miramar campus.
Can I participate in online EMT school courses on my phone or tablet?
No. To participate in the online portion of the EMT program, students need a laptop or desktop computer with reliable internet access. Mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets are not compatible with required learning platforms like Canvas and CourseKey.
Are the classes 100% online?

What certification do I need to work as an EMT?
